The Point of Pause: The Unsaid Words

Life has a way of keeping us moving. There is always something demanding our attention—a job, a relationship, our children, our families, bills, responsibilities, or simply the endless list of things that need to get done.

But when we are constantly moving, we don't always give ourselves enough space to ask whether the direction we are moving in is still right for us.

Taking time to pause creates that space.

A pause gives us an opportunity to look at our relationships, our work, our family life, and the direction our lives are taking. Much like journaling, it allows us to sort through thoughts that may feel tangled, recognize patterns, and reconsider what is working and what isn't.

But perhaps there is another reason to pause.

It gives us time to consider the unsaid words.

When we are hurt, frustrated, angry, or confused by another person, our first reaction comes from our own perspective. We know what we experienced. We know how we felt. But what might the situation look like from the other side?

Pausing doesn't mean excusing someone's behaviour or abandoning our own feelings. It simply creates enough room to wonder what we may not know.

And sometimes that small shift in perspective creates space for compassion, understanding, and open dialogue instead of assumption.

There will always be things left unsaid. Stories we don't know. Struggles we cannot see.

Perhaps the pause is where we make room for them.

And sometimes, that space is exactly what we need to see differently.
